Gyeonggi Province released the trailer for ‘Tales Untold’ the opening film of the ‘Korea AI International Film Festival(K-AIFF)’ scheduled to be held on October 25, through the Gyeonggi Content Agency’s YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/EdD8QDjJtsQ).
K-AIFF is Korea’s first and largest AI film festival where only films created using generative artificial intelligence participate. Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Gyeonggi Content Agency.
The opening film ‘Tales Untold’ is a work by ‘Studio Freewillusion’, headed by the director of ‘One More Pumpkin’, which won the grand prize at the Dubai International AI Film Festival. It is a story about the process of the main character Charles producing a short film containing the story of his youth with his daughter Emma using generative AI. Emma, who wants to repair her estranged relationship with her father, who is in poor health, uses AI technology to produce a short film based on her father's novel she discovered by chance. Through this process, Charles and Emma share memories as a family and envision a new future together.
The vision of the director, who was recognized for his work and creativity by becoming the first Korean to win the grand prize at an overseas AI film festival and presented new possibilities for the content industry, is in line with the values pursued by Gyeonggi Province and the film festival, with 'Tales Untold' as the opening film. The film festival explained that it was selected.
The opening film will be released for the first time through the K-AIFF held at KINTEX on October 25th. Film festival submissions are accepted until midnight on September 6th (Korean time), and videos made with generative AI can be submitted without restrictions on nationality, gender, or age.
Entries can submit videos in four categories: narrative, documentary, art & culture, and free format. 26 films, including excellent works and grand prize winners, will be selected in each category, and the total prize money will be 81 million won.
Detailed information, including how to submit, can be found on the film festival website (www.gcon.or.kr/aiff.html).
Kang Ji-sook, head of the Gyeonggi Province Content Industry Department, said, “Generative AI is a new content creation tool that has the positive side of lowering the threshold for creation and activating the creation of various content, thereby advancing the content industry to the next level.” “We plan to introduce deepfake detection technology and prepare countermeasures against the negative ripple effects of technological development,” she said.
